Hello. I am sorry about the loss of everyone's pets. I was also sad to read about the woman who's dog was taken from her yard. I had a question.. has anyone heard about a pet falling ill and/or dying due to a pet food that was not on the list? My healthy 6 year old (would have been 7) cat passed away Monday, Feb 26th. I normally fed her Nutro Max Dry food mixed with Purina Friskies Dry. Well, as a treat sometimes, I would alternate and give her canned Purina Fiskies and 9-Lives. The Friday before she passed I fed her Dry food. The Saturday before she passed I fed her dry and canned Purina Friskies. The Sunday and Monday she died I fed her soley canned Purina Friskies. She died suddenly on Monday night. It appeared she had trouble urinating a little early Monday evening. Around 10pm when I checked on her.. .. she had passed. Her body was still warm.. and I tried to perform CPR to no avail. She was already gone. I thought I had felt a pulse as I held her head in my hand..but realized it was only my heart racing..and my hand trembling. Everything I learned in CPR ..went right out of my head when I actually needed it. Anyway, she must have thrown up right before she passed.. as it was right next to where I found her. I just hope she didn't suffer. When this pet food recall came out.. things started to make sense. I called the FDA to inform them in case anyone else had called. I wanted the FDA to have all the statistics. Now, it may have been a coincidence and maybe my cat died from something else.. but again.. maybe not. Just wanted to know if anyone else heard anything.
Thank you,

I'm so sorry for your loss. I have heard on several accounts where people have said that they think their pets have died due to foods NOT on the recall list. Most I have heard is Purina. I just recieved an email from someone who says they fed their pets 'Ol Roy from AUGUST 2006. I have a feeling we will never find out, or there will be even more deaths before someone comes forward. I've heard a bunch about Purina, I took my pups off of Purina Puppy Chow and am feeding them chicken and rice for now. I don't know who to trust anymore.

We went to pedigree for now until we find something to give our pets. We heard that blue seal is safe. We like purina but we switched because we had heard the same about purina. I dont know what to feed mine also. They say it is in just the wet food but several people said they only feed their pets dry and they had kidney failure. Pets that normally have kidney failure though urinate alot. Watch your cat food that you are not giving them food that has a lot of salt in it. That can harm them also. If your cat did not eat alot of the wet cat food at first she may not of been effected as fast as other pets. Your best bet is to get an Autopsy if you think it was the food. The Vet can tell you if it was.
Sorry you lost your kitty. I know it is hard. We all feel the pain of a precious one lost. Especially when it is senseless.

I was giving my kittys fancy feast and meaow mix. I stopped both. I just do not trust these companys. I was cooking for awhile and then read about blue buffalo. it seems to have some good nutrients in it. The cats liked it a all 4 dogs ate it without problems. Knock on wood. I think they will extend the list, so if a pet is having a problem I would stop the food,on the list or not. I do not trust Menu Foods at all.

In the NEWS section I just posted some foods - not saying to get them - but that don't have wheat, soy and other things, and also not associated with Menu Foods.

My story has a happier ending. Tramp survived. However...here is his story.Coincidence or is the recall date wrong? You decide...I know what I think is the truth. Last November we took our very healthy 6 year old collie to the beach with us for the weekend.Normally he indulges in people food as a treat down the beach but since we were eating out we got him a few cans of Alpo prime cuts...lamb (NOT on the list until today!). Upon our return home he went stiff in his back leg and then developed the increased thirst, urination and lethargy and vomiting a bit. We took him to the vet and were stunned when the vet gave us the results of his test. Hypercalcemia...85% of dogs with it have lymphoma...dead within 2 months or have been exposed to rat poison. We ruled out poison and got ready to deal with his impending death. Since he had to be coaxed to eat...I kept giving him the rest of the canned food mixed with his dry food...he continued to get sicker. By Thanksgiving he had some respitory issues...goes along w/kidney failure.However...I had stopped giving him dog food and began a "holistic" diet..lots of chicken, beef, fish, rice and fish oil supplements. Trips back to the vet...he became her "miracle pooch"...and by the beginning of January, when he should have been dead...he was pretty much his old self. She is still clueless as to what happened to him,or why he pulled through. Prayers got him better...that I do believe. I also find it ironical that he became so ill after eating Prime Cuts...but it was not on the recall list until today. More worrisome is this illness began in November...a month before the manufacturers say they switched wheat products. I don't believe in coincidence...something is not adding up. Your thoughts? I have contacted Alpo and even action news...but no responses from anyone as of yet. Unless there is gross negligence on the dog food folks...I am not seeking monetary compensation...it is enough my best friend survived. ...although the vet bill was substantial.I just think they are not being truthful,or perhaps they are on the wrong track...

My cat died last week of kidney failure. She had just finished a bag of Purina Friskies in the purple and white bag and had several feedings of Purina Friskies Chef's Blend. Both dry foods and not at this time on the recall list. My cat was in good health, had regular check ups and updated shots. She was only about 5 years old. She was a stray so I am not positive of her age. She first started drinking alot of water and then quit eating. She was hospitalized 3 times and died at the vets office. All her labs showed renal failure. My condolences to all those who have lost a beloved pet. I feel your pain.

Dee--You are right about the problem starting earlier than they are admitting. My dog Coyote also ate Alpo as well as dry Pedigree and he started acting funny in Dec., maybe earlier.

I'm pretty sure you all are right - the dates going farther back then what they are willing to say. I have read too many stories of their pets dying to dry or canned dog food from last year almost as far back as August. I do believe that they're not telling the whole truth. And what's up with the company that remained anonymous that also was shipped wheat from China? Have we heard anything from them? Supposedly they manufacture dry food. Just be careful who you trust.

i don't think the pedigree is safe, since one of the last meals my dog ate, was the cuts in gravy from them. i have posted many times on the other message board (aol) --2 wks ago, i tried giving the new pup some of that crap in the pouch--she would not eat it! i had to throw all her food away-then, i threw out the pouch---fortunately, i have one left! i bought them back in august too-----THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON LONGER THAN DECEMBER! they knew people would be panicking even more, had we known it went back that far----and that natural choice? i took my new one off of that stuff, which was recommended by pet depot---she was dry heaving-not acting right. 2 days later, i read about the tainted food. i fed her the dry food. we need a petition, to make sure those idiots take back all that food! get it out of the usa.
