My dog was a gorgeous 8 1/2-year-old Saluki who died last week. He stopped eating some of his dry food in Dec.--he would spit out certain shapes, so I suspected there was a change in the formula. I mixed homecooked food as well as several different brands of canned food with the dry food, but in Jan. he became sick, threw up, lost weight, and just didn't want to eat anything. We took him to the vet in Feb. and he was diagnosed with kidney failure. I was in shock, because I had no idea at all that it was so serious. His condition became way worse after that and we had to have him put down last week. I have been absolutely heartbroken and totally devastated ever since we found out about the kidney failure. At the time the vet told us there really wasn't anything we could do to save him.

What was the dry food that you were giving him... Thier is dry food on the recall now. Purina and pedigree were on the list and that is what we feed our dogs here. So now we are scared of losing all of our dogs. We are watching them close and hoping and praying that it doesnt hit us again. We are still up sett over our last pup we lost to menu foods. We cant afford to lose any more as we are going to be breeding soon. 4 females one male dobermans, and a thingyer spaniel. Plus we still have a pup from the last litter and a fixed female that we rescued and has been with us for 3 years now. We would be devistated emotionally and financially if we lost our dogs. You need to let people know what you feed your dog so we know what to look for though. Everyone needs to let each other know what you lost your dogs to.

Hi there. I'm so sorry to hear about Saluki. I know it's been hard but always remember the good times you had with your beautiful baby. I bet you gave him the best years of his life and he loved you wholeheartedly as you did him. Thanks for sharing your story. I'm sorry it's taken this long to get to you.
Purina and Pedigree are on the list now too? I'm sorry my computer has been down for a couple of days so I'm getting back up to date with everything.

I just posted a link about the extended food list. it is from cnn. here it is again if you did not see it. www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/04/pet.deaths/index.html?eref=rss_topstories It has some intresting facts in it. It was not rat poisoning and it is only being found in the wet food. The wheat gluten is whats affected. I only feed dry food. so we are watching everyone here. I am very nervouse regardless of what the pet food companies say. I am scared that I am going to lose one or more of my babies. Well read the link and let me know what you think. I wont be on for awhile due to my back.. My hands dont want to work right now. kris
